Mrs.Padhmini Ramakrishnan, mother of Dr.R.Niranjchana Devi, stayed in Rangoon along with her parents and had her earlier education there through English medium. During the time of Second World War, she came to ThamilNadu along with her mother, and continued her studies in Mary Sergeant School at Palayamkottai up to ‘Third Form' under the British educational System. There after, she learnt the higher education and various fine arts at home imparted by two British lady instructors. She had high proficiency in English. She was well versed in Sanskrit Slogans and Thamil poems of Avvaiyaar, Thirukkural, and devotional songs such as Thevaaram, & Thiruvaasagam and also other Thamil literary works. She had a high memory power and she was of the habit of quoting verses from Thamil Literature and Proverbs according to the context, while conversing. She had a tender heart and could not bear to see others' suffering. She always found pleasure by offering monetary help to those in distress. She was always thinking of the welfare of her nearest and dearest. She had never said ‘no' to anybody asking help.
She was expert in the art of Gastrology, Drawing, Painting, Dress making & Dress Designing, Machine Sewing & Hand Sewing, and also much skilled in Embroidery & Machine Embroidery works and drawing beautiful Kolams. She lived a life of honest living, setting an example of very cultured & decent life to others and completed her life in 3rd May 1996.
She had all capabilities required for a researcher and embraced the principle that "One's virtual deeds would always safeguard him".
